September 29th, 2015, started out like any other day.  I woke up, fed my asshole cats, got dressed for work, packed my lunch, and caught the bus to my office. I usually check Twitter, Facebook, Feedly, and Instagram on my 20 minute commute. So there I am, scrolling through Twitter, still sleepy, when I see this:  WUT. I love Kendrick Lamar. LOVE. HIM. To Pimp a Butterfly is definitely in my Top 3 albums of 2015 (and will likely stay there even with the release of new Ellie Goulding and Adele albums this month) and you can frequently find me… View Post

As this post goes live, I am on a plane to St. Louis. That’s right, y’all.  Barely a month off and I am back on the go once again for the United States Men’s National Team. My favorite aspects of being a part of the soccer community are the friends I’ve made and having the opportunity to travel to new and wondrous places. I’ve alluded to it in a few previous posts, and now I feel established enough to talk about my side hustle. I’m a pet sitter! And it’s been awesome! As you well know, I am a huge soccer fan. Huge. It’s one of the main reasons I travel. I’ve been all over the continental US and Canada for USMNT and D.C. United matches, as well as Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, England for Liverpool FC, and Brazil for the World Cup. Over Columbus Day weekend, the US Men’s National Team played Mexico in the playoff match for the right to play in the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia. The USMNT lost, so I won’t be talking about that, but I got to spend a wonderful long weekend in LA with… View Post

One of the things I want to focus on during The Melissa Year is eating healthier.  When I broke my ankle two years ago, it led to discovery that I am diabetic.  However, despite that diagnosis, I did not have a doctor at that time that helped me navigate the transition into life as a diabetic. It took me a year to accept that I needed to make major changes to my lifestyle to avoid complications down the line. Then, I found a DC based doctor that specializes in diabetes maintenance who could help me create a plan of attack.… View Post
